More Info on Star Behavioral Health Program (SBHP)

As a result of a partnership between the New Hampshire National Guard and the NH Suicide Prevention Council-Military & Veteran Committee, the nationally-recognized Star Behavioral Health Program will now be available in New Hampshire and other New England states!

Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) is a system for improving the quality of and access to behavioral health services to service members, veterans, and the people that care for them.

The Star Behavioral Health Providers training is comprised of three tiers that must be taken sequentially. The training series is free to those who attend, provides CEs and, for those who successfully complete the series, there will be the option to be added to a searchable, national database registry of behavioral health providers who have received the SBHP training. The information in the registry is periodically verified in order to provide a more accessible experience to the person seeking help.

Tier One: One day, covers military culture and the impact of deployments on families. (6.5 APA CEs)

Tier Two: Two days, covers issues associated with military service including military family resilience, traumatic brain injury, substance abuse, sleep disorders, suicide, PTSD, and 3 hours of ethics. (13.5 APA CEs)

Tier Three: Two days, teaches evidenced-based psychotherapies for treating particular behavioral health conditions facing service members, veterans and families. (14 APA CEs)

The Tier One training is comprised of foundational military culture that any professional would benefit learning. Many professionals choose to attend only the Tier One training. Tier One training is provided by local trainers, contains some New Hampshire-specific information, and can be hosted by community provider organizations. Tier Two and Three trainings are taught by national SBHP instructors and have a more clinical focus.
